Underground Market!

In other fun events this weekend, tomorrow is L'Oven Kitchen's grand debut at the SF Underground Market. What is L'Oven Kitchen you say? The culinary, collaborative brainchild of myself and Mr. Ben Chambers that is taking on the cutesy, cupcake empire that has taken over the city one grain of salt at time. Tomorrow we'll be joined by the one and only Slam Johnson of Apothocurious together we'll be reinventing delicious with our SAVORY CUPCAKES + SWEET TACOS and FROSTING BAR. It shall be a scrumptious affair indeed!

We'll be dishing up our goods between 11am and 4pm at the Market, which is going to be taking place at Public Works (161 Erie). Entry to the Market is $5 and there will be a grip of other vendors serving up their homegrown delicacies as well.

Throw Down on 4/15!

Apothocurious will be THROWING DOWN some sort of food bar (tacos, fancy grilled cheese, tdb) @ the Schoolhouse Friday night. I need one volunteer to can help me serve up the deliciousness. Any takers? let me know ASAP

Grant Prix!!

Dear ALL,

We went to help make your dreams come true.
If you have a project, an idea, something wonderful, you no longer have to wait for moolah.

This coming THURSDAY, The SchoolHouse is throwing their first ever GRANT PRIX.


1. Everyone is invited to join.
2. At the door at 7PM, people pay $10 for dinner and a ballot.
3. We eat, enjoy live music, and then 6 projects are presented in 5 minutes each.
4. People vote for their favorite project.
5. The top two are given one additional minute to present.
6. Another vote and the winner is decided.
7. All money from tickets go to making that PROJECT COME TRUE.
8. And you have a lot of backers!

That's probably about $300-$500!

- Want to ride a unicycle across America?
- Finish a new robot to serve people ice cream?
- Start a new bike program in a middle school?
- Make a mural on an underpass

Urban Eating League

The Urban Eating League is a monthly locally-sourced progressive meal with a competitive tilt. Host sites buy and cook food (the cost is covered by the entry fee from the eaters). The teams of eaters travel around to all the different host sites. Eaters score the host sites on various categories (flavor, execution, hospitality, and creativity). The scores are tallied at the dessert potluck after-party and prizes and awards are handed out to the host sites.

Host have the opportunity to show case their food, hospitality, and creative skills with a captive audience. The hosts are really the most important element of the event. These are the folks who put in the hard work to make sure the eaters have such an amazing time. Top scoring host sites win prizes, fame, and Internet publicity (posted on multiple bay area community websites). Plus, it’s FUN!

The hosts are responsible for planning a menu, finding the local ingredients, cooking the food, setting the environmental ambiance and overall experience, and generally making it all possible. To help entice people to be hosts (because it really is a challenging workload), we make sure to line up prizes to be awarded at the end of the evening, and we also offer anyone who helps on the hosting end status as “Very Important Eaters” i.e. they get first crack at being eaters in the next event (a serious draw considering the demand far exceeds the supply of eating slots in each UEL event).

We recommend that each host site has at least four people there to help during the event. The host sites need to be able to greet the teams upon entry and engage them in some sort of “front of the house experience” (e.g. performing a ceremony or a skit, setting expectations for the menu, explaining the theme, etc), have at least two people focused on cooking and plating the food, and have someone available to wash dishes in the time between each duo of teams leaves and the new duo arrives (we’ve found that 30 minutes at each site and 15 minutes to travel between sites works well - that means each host site has 15 minutes to “turn things over”).

Do you love Biking? Do you like camping? Do you love combining biking and camping? Do you love bike touring and want to share your stories? Are you curious about doing a long distance or multi-day bike tour but don't know where to start? Make friends! Learn new skills! Share your stories!

On April 12th we will be hosting a bike touring story telling and skill share night. Starting with stories from new and experienced bike tourers, we'll share ideas and resources to have maximum fun on your bike. Afterward, small group discussions will give you a chance to get in depth, ask questions, and get support around things like choosing a touring bike, camping on the down low, DIY bike gear, and anything else you want to talk about!

We'll also be doing bike maintenance skill shares from 5-6:30 PM for anyone who wants to learn more about basic tools and skills you need to keep riding all day long.

WHAT: Bike touring storytelling and skillshare, brought to you by the Social Fabric, catered by Apothocurious

WHEN: Tuesday, April 12th, 7-9 PM

WHERE: At the Schoolhouse, part of the 100 Days of Spring project
1592 Market St, San Francisco (at the convergence of Franklin and Page)

COST: The Schoolhouse is a community school space that rents its space at a reasonable cost to support community, education, and sharing. We're asking for donations of $5 to cover the costs of using the space! Donations are also accepted for Apothocurious.
